Onkyo’s latest range of two-channel separates harks back to the golden age of hi-fi with VU meters and classic styling.

Naturally, while the high-end components make look old-school on the outside, the pre-amplifier, power amplifier and CD player in the range all come with the latest technology on the inside. The P-3000R pre-amplifier (£1,700), for example accepts both analogue and digital sources and also sports an up-to-the-minute USB connection. A high-quality 32-bit Burr-Brown DAC does conversion duties for each stereo channel, while PLL (phase locked loop) technology aims to minimise clock jitter.
The M-5000R (£2,500) power amp is the one with the VU meters (volume indicators for the youngsters) and uses Onkyo’s AWRAT (Advanced Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplification design. It incorporates a symmetrical alignment of power devices for the left and right channels to minimise potential errors, and uses closed ground-loop circuits and high instantaneous-current capability.
The C-7000R CD player (£1,500) includes fully separate analogue and digital circuitry, a ‘silent’ transport, solid die-cast aluminium tray and AES/EBU digital outputs.
All three separates include Onkyo’s new Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) which is designed to counteract unwanted high-frequency interference.
The new range is due for release next month available in either silver or black.
