Ask The Editor - Touch Screen Internet Radios

9 novembre 2010

We get asked a lot of questions at Cinenow, so we thought it was about time we started answering some of them. Here’s the first – we’ll post more questions and answers soon.

Q: Are there any internet radios with a touch screen like a mobile phone? It seems like such an obvious way to find your way round all those thousands of stations?
Mark Strand

A: We’d have to agree with you there Mark, but to date, we’re only aware of two. The Pure Sensia came out last year, and it’s about to be followed by the Roberts colourSTREAM. Both models can access internet radio through a home network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, though the Roberts also includes an iPod dock The large touch sensitive screens have the advantage over most standard LED displays by offering lists of radio stations, genres and territories that can be browsed through easily by brushing the screen with the fingers.

Both use resistive touch screen technology however, which is not quite as sensitive as the capacitive type appearing in the higher end smart phones these days but is still considerably easier to use than the standard dial and LED displays that most internet radios use.
