British set-top box manufacturer TVonics has announced that it will deliver its first HD set top boxes in July 2010.

Early views of the DTR-HD500 shows that it will have a distinctive slimline form factor, but more importantly, it will be able to deliver full HD 1080p broadcasts (when we get them), plus the ability to upscale standard def broadcasts.

There’s also a 500GB hard drive on board for recording and rewinding of live TV, plus dual tuners so you can watch and record two channels at the same time, as well as view them in tandem thanks to the DTR-HD500’s picture-in-picture function.

Connections-wise there are two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, plus Ethernet and two USB slots.

Andy Carr, chief technology officer at TVonics, said: “Our range of HD products will ensure that consumers are easily able to view Freeview HD with high quality surround sound, by simply connecting the box to the HD Ready TV – delivering a user experience we believe is superior to other boxes in the market place.”

The TVonics DTR-HD500 set-top box should be on sale sometime in July for around £300.
