Technisat’s HDFS Freesat HD box has received a software update which allows it to access the BBC iPlayer.
What’s more, it claims that it’s the only Freesat HD box which can do so wirelessly. While the HDFS has an Ethernet port for connecting directly to the internet, it also has a rear-mounted USB input which can be used to connect a WLAN adaptor. The adaptor doesn’t come with the box as standard however, and costs an extra £30.
The iPlayer download went live on 25 March and existing HDFS owners can get it by searching for updates. They can then access iPlayer via the red button on their remote.
Martin Wilks, TechniSat UK’s Research & Development Manager, said “We are very pleased to be joining the BBC iPlayer trial and believe that the wireless capability of the HDFS offers customers the lowest cost solution to receiving the service when a fixed connection is not possible.”
The TechniSat HDFS box is on sale now for £180.
