Philips has announced the launch of its latest BDP7500 Blu-ray player, which it claims will “re-write the standard for build quality and design” for midrange HD disc spinners.
The Profile 2.0 player inclues BD Live support and will deliver 1080p 24fps Full HD images and also upscale standard definition DVDs to near Full HD quality.

The main case is built from rigid, vibration-resistant aluminium, and features an unusual inlaid lip with a subtle blue light, while the front panel has a black, mirror-like finish and touch-sensitive illuminated controls
Audio support includes lossless formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and it features full 7.1 analogue outputs.
The quality of the audio and video signals is preserved by direct digital transfer via the HDMI v1.3 connector, which supports Deep Color technology, so offering the potential to deliver over a billion colours while reducing on-screen colour banding, says Philips.
There’s 1GB of memory on board for use with BD Live material and a USB socket on the front allows playback from USB devices with support for most video file formats including DivX Ultra, H.264, VC-1, JPEG and MP3.
The Philips BDP7500 is available now for £249.
