LG launches first commercial 3D HD display

LG has beaten its rivals to launch the world’s first commercial full HD 3D LCD display.

The 23in 3D display, as yet unnamed, was debuted in South Korea and is reported to be already shipping to ‘a global PC manufacturer’.

It uses polarising 3D technology which requires shutter glasses to help create the illusion of a 3D image and LG claims it can deliver picture quality that is almost twice as high as what’s available on other existing 3D-enabled PC displays.

LG suggests that it will be used for 3D gaming as well as watching 3D movies, though it hasn’t said what software will be compatible with the system. 3D TV however may be an option, since South Korea has already said that it plans to begin experimenting with 3D HD broadcast television as early as next year.
