Spotify allows music storage

5 octobre 2009

Music streaming service Spotify now allows users to save tracks on their computer to play back when they’re offline.

The service is only available to Spotify’s Premium users, who pay £10 a month for the privilege of listening to music without adverts.

The new offering is particularly aimed at those who listen via their laptop, since they can now take their computer on holiday and retain up to 3,333 tracks in their playlists, even if they’re out of network coverage.

The Spotify app for the iPhone and Android mobile phones already allows Premium users to store music, but this is the first time the add-on has been applied to the standard desktop application.

The new offline mode can be used across three different devices on one account, either mobiles or computers. The quality of the saved tracks is the same as the streamed variety, ie 320kbps for Premium users, while the non-paying majority will get 160kbps.
