THX lance son nouveau processeur audio D20

18 mars 2005

THX Ltd., the leading provider of technologies, certification programs and quality assurance standards for the entertainment industry, today introduced the THX D20™, a digital network crossover monitor for commercial cinemas. The D20 is designed to help cinema owners better manage and monitor cinema audio systems, and quickly resolve technical problems to reduce disruptions to business. The D20 provides a means to intelligently configure surround sound systems, monitor the quality of audio presentations and improve the overall movie-going experience. THX will demonstrate the D20 this week at ShoWest 2005 (Booth #1829), and will make the product available to cinema owners later in the year.

The THX D20, the latest in a successful line of THX crossover products, represents a marked improvement in the quality and functionality of previous crossover systems. The D20 provides cinema technicians a way to pinpoint and fix problems in cinema sound systems, minimizing disruptions in the movie presentation. And for the first time, technicians will be able to remotely manage crossovers via a Web-based interface compatible with commonly used Web browsers. This user-friendly interface will help cinema owners to better allocate technical resources, and move the industry closer to a network management model.

"The THX D20 not only improves the playback quality of movie sound, it also incorporates product features that allow cinema management to streamline their technical operations and improve up-time assurance," said Michael Franzi, chief marketing officer at THX. “THX designed the D20 for today's cinema environment, with tomorrow's digital cinema standards and quality in mind. With the D20, cinema owners are getting a technology that's ready for D-cinema integration, but can be used with current systems and content."

THX D20 incorporates 28-bit digital signal processing (DSP) technology, and offers a dynamic range greater than 100dB (decibels). This ensures better sound resolution from high-impact movie soundtracks, and is compatible with expected digital cinema audio standards. The THX D20 is also easily integrated with today’s cinema audio processing systems. The single-unit system makes configuration and setup easy. In fact, because THX has established partnerships with the manufacturers of loudspeakers, most cinema speaker profiles will be pre-loaded into the system, reducing installation and set-up time.
